Joe Hawkins grew up in Trussville graduating from Woodlawn High School in 1951 and Auburn University in 1955. Joe served in the U S Army as a Second Lieutenant at Fort Sill Oklahoma and Fort Benning Georgia. He also served six years in the Army Reserves discharged at the rank of Captain. Joe retired as Director of Marketing in 1995 after a 37 year career at AlaGasCo. Joe was an accomplished musician singing with the "Warblers" in high school and playing the trumpet and cornet. Joe Hawkins grew up in Trussville graduating from Woodlawn High School in 1951 and Auburn University in 1955. Joe served in the U S Army as a Second Lieutenant at Fort Sill Oklahoma and Fort Benning Georgia. He also served six years in the Army Reserves discharged at the rank of Captain. Joe retired as Director of Marketing in 1995 after a 37 year career at AlaGasCo. Joe was an accomplished musician singing with the "Warblers" in high school and playing the trumpet and cornet. He also had an infinite love of animals and supported the Humane Society. Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years Dorothy ("Dot") Bonner Hawkins; his sons Michael David Hawkins (Dotty), and John Scott Hawkins (Michael); grandsons Aaron Michael Hawkins (Melissa) and Ian Michael Hawkins; and great-granddaughter Georgia Rian Hawkins. In lieu of flowers the family appreciates contributions to Southeast Hospice Network, 2522 Valley Dale Road, Birmingham AL 35244. The funeral service will be Thursday April 2, 2015 at 2:30 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Visitation will start at 1:30.
