Mr. J.D. Railey, age 99 of Alexander City, Alabama, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Rowe Railey, who were married for 57 years until her death in 1999; parents Jeff and Etta Railey; daughter and son-in-law Sue Railey Duffy and Mike Duffy; brother Arland Railey; sisters Irma Lambert, Ruth Barnett, and Mary Alice Foster. He is survived by his son Scott D. Railey (Kathy) of Goodwater, Al.; and grandchildren Kim Duffy Beasenburg of Charleston, SC., Laura Duffy Player (Ryan) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl., Brian Duffy...

Mr. J.D. Railey, age 99 of Alexander City, Alabama, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Rowe Railey, who were married for 57 years until her death in 1999; parents Jeff and Etta Railey; daughter and son-in-law Sue Railey Duffy and Mike Duffy; brother Arland Railey; sisters Irma Lambert, Ruth Barnett, and Mary Alice Foster. He is survived by his son Scott D. Railey (Kathy) of Goodwater, Al.; and grandchildren Kim Duffy Beasenburg of Charleston, SC., Laura Duffy Player (Ryan) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl., Brian Duffy (Krystyna) of Petaluma, Ca., Matthew Railey of Winter Haven, Fl., Steve Railey (Jillian) of Dothan, Al., Elizabeth Railey Riggs (Matt) of Tampa, Fl., and Audra Williams Spears (Nicky) of Alexander City, Al.; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was a devoted Christian, model husband, loving parent, and a true Southern gentleman. He loved his country, serving in WWII in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Hiroshima. Mr. Railey worked for Merita Bakery for 57 years, as the cake superintendent, and retired in Orlando, Fl. He loved spending time with his family, playing golf, and travelling. His family will receive friends on Thursday, September 14, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Ridout's Trussellville Chapel, and celebrate his life with a service at 2:00 PM led by Reverend Pete West. Burial will follow at Forest Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a church of your choice, or veteran's organization.
